We’re Collecting.

Year-long we collect the following items to assist in our mission. To contribute to any of our collections, contact us or talk to your local Lion.

  • Used glasses are sent to New Jersey Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center. Then, they are delivered to countries with our accessible sight/vision services.

For a full list of where to drop off your unneeded glasses, click here.

  • Hearing aids are collected and delivered to Keystone Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

Hearing aids can be donated via our eyeglass drop boxes.

  • That’s right - we collect the stamp off of the envelopes that have already been used. Just tear the corner off.

Stamps are sent to Stamps for the Wounded for use with rehabilitation therapies.

Please give any used stamps to a Shillington Lion, or drop in one of our eyeglass collection boxes. For information on where to find our eyeglass collection boxes, visit the tab on “Used Glasses”

  • Sign up for the Redner’s Receipt program in support of Shillington Lions at the customer service desk. Then, give us your receipts when you shop at Redner’s. We hand them in and our club receives 1% of what you paid on your receipt.

  • Baseball and other brimmed hats are sent to countries nearest the equator to help prevent sun damage to the eyes.

Please give any donated hats to a Shillington Lion. Please use the Contact Us form if you would like a Lion to reach out to you.

  • That’s right, we even have a car donation program. We assist individuals in donating their car to our club for tax deductions.

  • Although the Shillington Lions does not have a Medical Equipment Program, a number of other clubs do have that program that allows the free distribution of medical equipment and the acceptance of equipment. For a list of those clubs, click here.

We Serve.

  • Clean Ups.

Our club participates in several community clean-ups throughout the year. We have adopted a section of highway in Shillington and clean-up as part of an Earth Day Initiative. Annually, we also clean up the Mohnton Playground and Wyomissing Creek.

  • Collections.

Throughout the year we hold several collections to support organizations and their missions. Of these include annual food drives, continued clothing drives, as well as hearing aids and glasses.

  • KidSight.

The Shillington Lions club proudly supports KidSight USA that provides free vision testing to children in our community. Our club visits a local preschool annually and provides all of the children with screenings. We also provide screenings at local community events by request.

  • Dictionary Project.

Recently, our club has committed to providing personal dictionaries to every 3rd grader within the Governor Mifflin School District on an annual basis.

  • Independent Projects.

We help where help is needed. As Lions, many of our members engage in service projects on an individual basis for community organizations that speak to them or speak to their individual talents.

Financial Impact.

  • Vision Services.

Shillington Lions Club provides financial support to anyone in our community in need of vision services or glasses that cannot afford one. If you are not in our service area, or do not qualify for our financial services we always provide you with a resource that can assist you.

  • Scholarships.

Each year we provide two scholarships to graduating seniors in the Governor Mifflin School District. These scholarships are selected by the school and may be used for the students’ post-graduate education.

  • Local Donations.

Some of the annual donations include Mifflin Food Bank, Grace Lutheran Food Bank, Mifflin Community Library, Borough of Shillington, Shillington Fire Company, and Governor Mifflin School District Initiatives.
